Yes!

After a few days of deliberating, I decided to go ahead and kick off a new weekly mix series for you guys, gonna feature mostly electro, but really is gonna comprise of whatever I’m rocking out to that week, some oldies, some goldies, either way it’ll be a good time. Head over to the soundcloud page for a full tracklist, if any tracks catch your fancy let me know, I’d love to link you to a nice fat 320 dl.

Some solid electro in here, I dip into a couple of moombah tunes for a bit, but mostly its party music.

Spread the word, You Only Live Once!

It’s hard for me not to get really, really into whatever Chris Elliot aka Nom De Strip puts out, his production, energy, and signature sound are all on point. Hes got too much talent to sound cheesy, his songs actually follow some structure and melody, and you can pick him out of a lineup of random songs. These things were made for the club, so grab some over-the-ears and head over to his soundcloud and pick up your favorites.

Tommie Sunshine feat. Tiffany Roth – Tonights The Night (Nom De Strip Remix)
BEENS vs. Dachstuhl – Fogger (Nom De Strip Remix)

I love Dada Life, but it seems like the last two singles they released(although monsters they both are), have a little too much in common. Head to the drop at 1:30 on the ZHM Remix, then play the brand new Happy Violence from the start. Although the basslines are used differently, both songs feature a pretty identical version of the other, complete with the same claps, with a tinny melody on top. Again both songs I think are fantastic, but can’t help but be a little bummed out with my favorite Swedes. Thoughts?

Mustard Pimp – ZHM (Dada Life Remix)
Dada Life – Happy Violence

Wrapping up this week I’d LOVE to introduce an up-and-comer in my neck of the woods. I usually pride myself on my hunting-downability of new artists and music coming from wherever, but the fact that this dancey, dark, slightly European stuff got past me for this long gets me down. No problem, I get to share it with you! Ladies and germs, I give you MPHD.

Autosuggestion – MPHD & Soccius
Soccius – Zoo Colors (MPHD Remix)+++
SebastiAn – Yes (MPHD Edit) (Hey, I CAN dance to this song!)

Right? Yeaaaaaaa. These guys are label mates over at Bad Shoes Records, look forward to more stuff coming from that direction.

Wear good headphones and support the music!

If anyone’s had the pleasure of listening to any progressive dance/rock in the past ten years, I’m happy to introduce you to the next step in the music world. I had the pleasure of seeing these guy perform four of five times in San Diego, and it never got old. True live artists moved electronic, here’s Clark Baechle, Todd Fink, and Jacob Thiele, Three fifth’s of the legendary group, The Faint, and their venture into bringing their experience and expertise into dance music. Soundcloud here, and you can get the albums here for killer remixes and orginals.

CSS – Hits Me Like A Rock (Depressed Buttons Remix)
Depressed Buttons – Shinichi Osawa Feat. Tommie Sunshine – Love Will Guide You
Boys Noize – Kontact Me (Depressed Buttons Remix)

R3hab’s been on fire lately. Afrojack’s protege has taken danceable anthems to the next level, incorporating huge builds into popular clubs across the world, with energy unlike anyone I’ve seen. His somehwat lack of original material is interesting though, curious to see if he’ll keep doing remixes that are completely different than the original tracks, or if he can start putting together more original tracks or an ep soon. These are some insanely fun songs to play at clubs.

Swanky Tunes ft. Max C – Sending My Love (Original Mix) – Download removed due to artist request
Gloria Estefan – Wepa (R3hab Remix)

New Deadmau5 track, I feel like it could go somewhere and it doesn’t, kinda like everything he’s put out in the past 2 years.

Deadmau5 – Where My Keys (Original Mix)

Below is treasure, I’ve don ethe diggin’ for ya!

Style of Eye – We Are Boys
Duck Sauce – Radio (Bastille Edit)
Le Castle Vania – Awake
Stafford Brothers ft. Seany B – Speaker Freakers (LA Riots Remix)

A big thanks over to www.dscotech.com for the tracks, a great blog with tons of music.

^ That’s how I feel about these mixtapes. So stoked to see a change of pace from a dj without it going into a “side project” or being hyped beyond belief. These are just good, rare, rad (yes rad) tunes being spun together at a mellow little pace (Jay Dee chills), highlighted with some light scratching for effect. It’s a rad opportunity to get inside the (no doubt extensive)library of one of the more mysterious and ominous producer/djs out there. He released these three mixes in the past three weeks, each exactly 7 days apart, and he says he’s not done. Listen and download below, do your ears and soul a favor, you’ll honestly find some gold in there.

“Used” Vol. 1

“Used” Vol. 2

“Used” Vol. 3

He also put out a teaser yesterday for his upcoming EP “DEEP RED”, to come out in a few weeks on Cheap Thrills and F.B.’s own label, Blood Music. Gotta say I’m not too stoked about the first two tracks, and Medieval (although a rad track)has been around for awhile now. Kinda meh’d on this one. Thoughts?

I’m always stoked to see djs take their talents to new places within their production, not to mention within a set itself. It’s no secret that Pendulum is one of the biggest groups in EDM today, with a live show that has no comparison. I honestly am not the biggest fan of their type of Drum n Bass/Anthemic Rock, but I intensely respect the fact that they’ve created their own signature sound in a sea of conformation. That being said, I give you Rob Swire (frontman) and Gareth McGrillen (bassist/DJ) of Pendulum’s new side project: Knife Party.

Awesome mix of Electro dropped into Moombahcore (didja hear that Skrillex/KP moombah track?!?! hit the soundcloud page for tracklisting) then into smashing dubstep. They had their first show at Ibiza a few days ago, and expect big releases soon from these guys. No announcements yet, so stay up on their twitter for more info.

This Swedish House Mafia remix is just nuts, totally saved the song for me. Grab it and rage.
Save The World – Swedish House Mafia (Knife Party Remix)

As always, wear good headphones, and buy the music!

Got a chance to see a couple of favorites of mine over the weekend, AC Slater and Mustard Pimp (ok, Charles of Mustard Pimp). In between less than impressive dubstep from 16 Bit and Emalkay (The Others were amazing), they ruled the show with high energy bass craziness. Today saw the release of “The Bass EP”, comprising of two tracks. Both songs feature dutch tribal master Bart B More, who shares production duties on “The Bass” with Drop the Lime and on “Crybaby” with AC Slater. Both songs have signature Bart all over them, and the back beat and creepiness of “The Bass” sells me. Listen here, then go grab a copy on beatport here.

Bart B More & Drop The Lime – The Bass

Bart B More & AC Slater – Crybaby

Bonus, been waiting for this damn track forever. Honestly at least a year, and it’s still this good.
The Loops Of Fury – Rack Em (Modek Mix)

This dropped six days ago, and I’m honestly just blown away. There are so many rad tracks packed into this 6 min. preview, I’ve had this on repeat since I found it. Apparently this is John Bourke of Trash Yourself! taking his talents in a new direction. Teaming up with the likes of Lucky Date and Kids At The Bar, these releases are not to be missed. Check out his sampler and get spooky with it.
