The Wombats are an indie pop rock trio out of Liverpool. They took the music industry by storm when their 2007 debut album The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation went platinum. Since then they have released a few EPs and returned with their sophomore album, The Wombats Proudly Present: Modern Glitch in 2010. The energy and catchiness of their tunes cannot be understated in a live setting. If you’re all stoked on seeing Two Door Cinema Club and want to catch an artist that’s a little bit similar, you should be sure to check them out. Despite a lack of new material, they’re definitely an act that has all the artillery to put on one of the more memorable sets of the weekend.

Earl Sweatshirt (of Odd Future) is set to perform solo at Coachella this year. The 19 year old was sent to boarding school in Samoa during Odd Future’s swift rise to fame and unable to perform with them during their Coachella debut in 2011. He released his first album EARL in 2010 at the tender age of 17. Before being sent away, Earl was a fan favorite within the group along with Tyler, The Creator. Both he and Tyler have become somewhat notorious for the violent acts they describe in their songs.

Earl has returned and recorded his next album Doris, which is set to be released this spring. He has since released two singles “Chum” and “Whoa.” They couldn’t be more different thematically, lyrically or musically at all. That variance, for me, is much appreciated. It’s really nice to see Earl showcase his talents as a writer. Opposed to him painting himself into a corner with Odd Future. With the possibility of special guests being at a high, you can guarantee I’ll be there on Friday.

After attending Coachella for many years, I’ve never seen people dump their tickets for less than face value. This year is different though. Tickets are floating around abundantly like helium balloons at a Honda dealership. I think it has to do with Coachella’s more minimalistic lineup. There’s no mass appeal, at all. Perhaps the “fans” don’t realize (or have the patience to discover) how many hidden gems are stacked on the bill. 2013 is the year of deep house. Deepchella.

Ranked from absolutely must see to house lovers only

Allow me to introduce Parov Stelar; a very unique Austrian Producer and DJ. He’s one of the many electronic artists who are currently reviving big band and swing music. I couldn’t be happier with this movement! Parov is credited with the creation of the Electroswing genre. You can’t help but feel that this is swing music for the 21st century, complete with all the trumpets, synthesizer, saxophone, and bass you’d ever need for the new age. The best part is that he’ll be touring with his live trio. Meaning that there will be live instruments! You’re almost guaranteed to nod your head, tap your foot and just groove out to these tunes. Consider adding him to your Coachooser for Sunday.

The saying ‘more is better’ is a definitive truth when the heads behind C2C are accounted for. Formerly known as Coups2Cross, these four Frenchies from Nantes are no strangers to a turntable. In fact, they have 4 DMC World DJ Championships combined! As C2C they bring a unique style to the scene that is best described as down-home jazz, bluegrass, and hip-hop gospel electro – doubly interesting considering their geographical origins. Their breakout hit Down the Road characterizes all of this.

If finding new and interesting music is your bag or if you just enjoy some good ol’ jive, come hang out with us on Friday.

Brainchild of Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Raf Rundell (of Greco-Roman Soundsystem), The 2 Bears are two chaps from London with deeply established roots in the UK music scene. Their influence across the pond is definitely noticeable in the type of sounds that have been coming out of Europe lately. Their debut album Be Strong showcases their music as a curious mixture of house, funk, disco, dance, and soul.

They play Saturday. We suggest stopping by their set if you’re chasing that feel good vibe. You won’t be disappointed. Then pay (the very busy) Joe Goddard another visit, we assume later on in the day, for Coachella regulars Hot Chip and see what he can do when he’s got a live band behind his voice.

The Neighbourhood is playing on Friday. Start your weekend off with some ‘Black and White’. The self-created genre fits perfectly when you take in these five LA residents’ music as a whole. We classify their music as either dark or happy (though most of their songs are definitely further down the gradient). Their break-out hit, arguably, Sweater Weather is the closest resemblance to a happy song. Either way, the passion that lead singer Jesse Rutherford exudes is contagious; sure to put in you a trance. Comparable to a catharsis, these guys will help clear your minds for the rest of the experiences that the Coachella Polo Fields offers.
