Jordan Rakei, UK’s multi-instrumentalist young gun, is making his way to the Bay Area next week to flood the halls of The Fillmore with his sultry jams. Having accolades which include collaborating with Tom Misch and Disclosure while being a Nina Tune label mate of Bonobo, who he also toured with, you know something special is-a brewin’.

He has all the flavors of UK dance music and garage, but mixes it with R&B, jazz, and soul in a way that has us confidently awaiting his booming success. Rakei reminds me of the potential I saw in Sam Smith, but less poppy, more edgy, and ready to be discovered by the masses.

Take this special opportunity to see him at one of the world’s most storied and magnificent venues next Thursday on March 8th. Be sure to listen to his latest album Wallflower, which I included below. My favorite song is “May.” I get the chills just thinking about it…He’s able to take such a beautiful, uplifting chord progression into a booming, bass-filled chorus that has me closing my eyes and getting lost every time. Seriously can’t wait for this show.

Nestled on the breathtaking waterfront Downtown San Diego, the bi-annual CRSSD festival really takes the cake for us for unique and fun Southern California festivals. This March CRSSD will again deliver a refreshing and exciting line-up filled with great acts from all over the house, techno, indie, realms.

The thing that makes CRSSD so special is the fact that it combines some of the best acts in electronic music with a scene that’s a far from the candy kid rave circuit. Combine that with a great selection of gourmet food and craft beers all under the beautiful Spring San Diego climate and you’ve got one of the best weekends you’re going to have in a very long time. The venue itself boasts 3 separate stages, huge fountains for cooling off, and a grassy landscape comfortable enough to picnic on. If you’re in the area it would not be wise to miss this incredible weekend and did we mention the festival is 21+ so get ready to roam around with your cocktails freely from dancefloor to dancefloor.

One of the most influential beat makers of our generation is making his way back to the Bay this week. His Beatz & Pieces Vol. 2 album straight up changed the game. That kind of soul, funk, and energy was in a realm of its own then and even still today. It’s a go-to album of mine whenever I’m traveling, because anyone, no matter where you’re from, what you do, or what you like, you can vibe with it. It just feels right, man.

He’s been criticized by some of his fans for veering too far away from what he started, but I honestly can’t blame him for wanting to explore the possibilities out there. Who wants to be pigeon holed? I sure as hell don’t. And hey, it brought him to his new RE:COIL EP, which is also the name of the tour. The “old” Gramatik is still very much there, it’s just evolved, and we’re going to see it live on Thursday! Check out the EP below.

Pete Tong host of the legendary BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix Series is bringing a little of Ibiza to Los Angeles on November 9th.

The event entitled “Ibiza Classics” will see Tong perform alongside avant-garde composer Jules Buckley and the 65 piece Heritage Orchestra reinterpreting classic dance tunes that have provided the soundtrack to the last two decades with the power of a full Philharmonic orchestra. If you’re looking for something fresh, new and exciting the check out then look no further.

Tong will be joined by opener Guy Gerber – who will perform his first live set in over four years – and special guests including Moby, making his Hollywood Bowl debut, Aluna George and vocalist Bipolar Sunshine, and special host for the night Zane Lowe

This could be a historic night for electronic music in California. There’s no perfect place to hold this event than in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl. The Bowl show follows Pete’s #1 record ‘Classic House’ earlier this year, and precedes the upcoming LP release of Ibiza Classics Dec 1.

This week in band names that aren’t strategically crafted for SEO purposes: CULTS! Nobody in music nowadays sets a nostalgic tone quite like they do. In a music world where everyone is forward thinking, CULTS harness a retro sound that would be a perfect fit for a late 80s high school movie. With Madeline Follin’s bubbly stage presence leading the charge and Brian Oblivion’s gothic atmosphere in control of backing vocals and instrumentals, you get the unique dynamic that will have you craving for more

It has been years since I’ve gotten to be fortunate enough to see these two come together to perform. What better time than directly off the release of their new album Offering that came out on October 6th? Crazy how it’s been 4 years since Static and 6 YEARS since their Self-Titled that made me fall in love with them. There is no sign of them slowing down whatsoever, and for that, I’m thankful.

Though tickets are sold out online, where there’s a will there’s a way. Peruse the Facebook event and feel the good luck within you. Do not miss this show!

Among the plethora of Halloween events in the Bay this year, you would be hard-pressed to find one more storied, coveted, and simply traditional as LoveBoat. You may be wondering, “LoveBoat? 10 year anniversary in the Bay? I was born and raised here and never heard of it!” Well first of all, relax. Second of all, you may remember it as Ghost Ship. Due to the tragic Oakland fire that shook the whole Bay Area community, they decided to shift away from the name. Their words:

LoveBoat Halloween will honor the Oakland warehouse fire victims and families by doing what we have always done: building art and spreading love. Hopefully a little love will help.

LoveBoat will do just that this year in a warehouse where the most creative stage builders and imaginative artists come together to celebrate the creepy, weird, and exciting vibes of Halloween in San Francisco. Check out the set times and a fun mix from the man himself below.

Few live touring acts give us the feels like British electronica group Alt-J do today. Comprised of singer Joe Newman, drummer Thom Sonny Green, and keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton the English trio have been melting hearts and faces around the world since 2007 (Hope all is well with you, Gwil Sainsbury).

On June 2nd the guys released their 3rd studio album Relaxer to fantastic critical and public acclaim. The 8-tracker retains the same garage-indie-rock style that the band become famous for while straying into newer territories of sound heard in seedy underground of the world. Relaxer is their first album to feature guest vocals; and given that they are from Wolf Alice‘s Ellie Rowsell and Maricka Hackman, they couldn’t be more welcome.

To celebrate the release of their new album and subsequent national tour we wanted to do something special. The LA leg of their show ends 8/10 at the Shrine. In honor of the album’s title Relaxer we’re asking you to post a picture on our Facebook, Twitter, snail-mailbox, high-school locker, etc. of you in your place of relaxation. It can be anywhere you find your center whether it be meditating on a mountaintop or simply listening to your favorite podcast during your morning commute (Don’t text/call/anything-but-drive and drive!). We have 5 pairs of tickets to giveaway to the best photos! Be sure to tag @ShrineLA @controlaltdelight and @Goldenvoice for full credit. Check them out if you’re at OSL too!

With support from SOHN and Bishop Briggs, this promises to be a heart-wrenching show in the best of ways. Come tear up with us.
