Indian Summer

It seems Australians are set to take over the electronic scene in the same way the French did in 2006. Aussie Duo Indian Summer have yet to reach the exposure levels of some of the torchbearers like Flume, Ta-Ku, Chet Faker and Motez but don’t be surprised if they do. These guys just might be more on the dancy side and rely a little heavier on bass.

The two have released a steady stream of singles, remixes and an EP since beginning roughly a year ago. They also recently recorded a set for Australia’s Triple J Mix Up (think BBC Radio1 for Australia) that should be checked out. Whether this is your first foray into music from the land down under or you’ve been enjoying it for a while, Indian Summer is not to be overlooked.

IHC Presents | RSVP/Tickets

We’re excited to say that the formerly-dubstep legend Skream will be headed to sunny SoCal on Sunday. The versatile DJ had a recent change of heart across the musical spectrum and will most likely be throwing down some groovy house and disco records. Although some are disappointed and confused in regards to Skream seemingly separating himself dubstep, a genre he helped pioneer, you should know you’re in for a unique set. I had the opportunity to catch this new side of Skream during his SKREAMIZM tour at the Avalon in Hollywood. I was thrilled with his ability to do so well in the complete different worlds that are disco and house.

Yesterday Skream released his brand new disco banger ‘Rollercoaster’. The song kinda just takes off and glides guided by Sam Frank’s vocals and an undeniably sweet bassline, which I don’t you’ll be able to sit still through with the proper soundsystem. Check the track and how to win guaranteed entry after the jump. This event WILL reach capacity so get tickets or get there early!!

As Oliver’s meteoric rise to the top of dance music trudges on, they continue to slay festivals and clubs. The Los Angeles duo will be spinning a hometown show at Drai’s IHC Sundays tonight! I’ve had the pleasure of catching a few of Oliver’s shows this year and every time it’s a very different and unique set. I can’t wait to hear the fresh batch of funk they throw down tonight!

Before Oliver takes to the decks, Mighty Mouse will be overseeing the ones and twos. You can expect a signature disco sound reverberating from wall to wall. Tickets can be purchased online for guaranteed entry or RSVP for free entry before 11pm. The pool will be open and they will have pool toys if you’re not too cool to get a little wet. As far as I can tell the only dress code “rule” is that you can’t wear a tank top unless it’s designer or you’re Oliver/Mighty Mouse. Hope to see some familiar faces up on the rooftop tonight!

Earl Sweatshirt | Buy Doris

It definitely seems like more than three years since the Odd Future (Wolf Gang Kill Them All) collective stormed, or better yet triumphed, the scene. Now after what seems like eons of waiting, Earl Sweatshirt released his debut LP Doris. Earl’s first EP EARL received rave reviews and spread like wildfire throughout the blogosphere. By the time everyone had begun asking about this 16 year old master wordsmith, he seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth. Check after the jump for more.

Lightning In A Bottle | Tickets

When it comes to quality over quantity, Kastle is your man. Though he’s been releasing music for over three years, he only released his eponymous debut LP to rave reviews. Kastle has managed to draw inspiration from a bevy of genres like hip-hop, R&B, UK garage and 2-step over his career. I can’t think of a better place for Kastle to debut his new LIVE show than Lightning in a Bottle.

Anamanaguchi | IHEARTCOMIX | Check Yo Ponytail | Photos

This past Tuesday I had the opportunity to catch a sold out Anamanaguchi at the Echoplex in LA as a part of the IHEARTCOMIX “Check Yo Ponytail 2” series. The 700 person capacity venue was full but surprisingly spacious as we walked in on Chrome Sparks. One of the very first things I noticed was the diverse crowd; it couldn’t have seemed more eclectic, but everyone was on the same page in anticipating an off-the-wall night. After Chrome Sparks finished up his bass heavy DJ set, Juiceboxxx took the stage and played their own style of indie rap. The crowd was all over it.

Anamanaguchi – Endless Fantasy
[audio:https://controlaltdelight.com/Music/Anamanaguchi/Endless%20Fantasy.mp3]

Another beer and bathroom break later and Anamanaguchi was preparing to come on and it seemed like everyone in the place rushed to the stage. The lights went out, the screen lit up and then ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’ started pumping through the speakers and the crowd’s anticipation came to a head. The band ran out on stage and jumped immediately into ‘Meow’ a crowd favorite. Within seconds what seemed like the entire sea of people began jumping, moshing, crowd surfing or stage diving. It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen a crowd go that nuts!

Anamanaguchi – Prom Night
[audio:https://controlaltdelight.com/Music/Anamanaguchi/Prom%20Night.mp3]

Anamanaguchi continued to power through their set with songs from both their debut Dawn Metropolis and their awesome new LP Endless Fantasy. The relentless assault of a hacked Super Nintendo joined by two guitarists, a bassist and a drummer managed to keep the crowd engaged throughout the entire set. The new lights and awesome projector cubes along with the 8 bit visuals really tied together this unique concert experience. For one of their last songs the band invited Bianca Raquel on stage to handle vocal duties on ‘Prom Night’, a personal favorite and one of the band’s songs that I envision as a possible crossover hit. Almost immediately after beginning the song it seemed as though everyone in the audience was singing along with her.

After the first chorus ended I asked my neighbors to boost me up and soon enough I was crowd surfing over a cluster of terrified looking Asian girls. That was basically the cherry on top of an awesome night spent at the Echoplex with a band that lived up to the hype and then some.

Empire of the Sun

Roughly a month after releasing the debut single ‘Alive’ from their followup album Ice on the Dune, Empire of the Sun are back with ‘DNA’. This song features everything that we’ve come to expect from Empire of the Sun: dreamy electronic pop soundscapes, drenched in reverb, throw in some guitar, new wave synths, and soaring choruses. Ice on the Dune is set to release on June 17th, and you can catch Empire of the Sun at HARD Summer this year! If I could sum up their live performance in two words: brace yourself.
