indie house

RÜFÜS // RÜFÜS DU SOL consistently releases addictive emotive indie-house. New track ‘Say a Prayer for Me’ is no different. The trio are coming off their You Were Right tour and into their far-from-a-slump sophomore release, Bloom, out on Foreign Family and Sweat It Out, January 22. In the meantime, we’ve got 4 singles to sate us. And then Coachella. Our excitement is palpable.

RÜFÜS // RÜFÜS DU SOL – Say a Prayer for Me

RÜFÜS // RÜFÜS DU SOL – Innerbloom

RÜFÜS // RÜFÜS DU SOL – You Were Right

RÜFÜS // RÜFÜS DU SOL – Like an Animal

Longer nights. Deeper thoughts. Blood moons. Heavier feelings. We’ve come into this season with high hopes.

Amateur Best – White Noise

Amateur Best‘s blasé electronic pop efforts continue on from last month’s ‘They Know‘ with a little less dance and a bit more drone. Excitement surrounds his upcoming album.

Maribou State – Wallflower (Simona Drive Remix)

This Simona Drive remix of Maribou State is for solo sideline adventures. With just enough kick to keep the feet shuffling, it gets lost where it doesn’t to be found.

HEALTH – Flesh World (Kenton Slash Demon Remix)

Steady death magic techno from Kenton Slash Demon over HEALTH calls upon the secret warehouse vibes of yesteryear. Ride this one into the dawn.

BABEL – Made to Stay

BABEL‘s new track reminds us there’s always a tomorrow. Halfway through, the soothing guitar gets the feelings flowing ever thicker.

Thrupence – New Light

New light, new life. This subliminal soundscape chases the darkness as it fades to white. In the wake, the sun rises with Thrupence.

The Beach Boys – Kokomo (Viceroy Edit)

Summer never ends, as Viceroy well knows. He breathes new life back into The Beach Boys‘ classic track. Not that it ever left.

SPZRKT & Sango – How Do You Love Me (Chris McClenney Remix)

Remember to love as SPZRKT & Sango‘s HDYLM gets the jazzy keys treatment by Chris McClenney.

As is customary for year’s end, we must reflect back on our experiences. The way everything came together for us this year in regards to music – album releases, shows, festival appearances, CAD4.0! – definitely makes it one of the best years we’ve had. We’ve put together a top 20 list to recognize our very much opinionated favourite releases of 2014. These twenty albums influenced us in some way or other throughout the year by making us dance, think (or not think), and enjoy life; and they deserve a shout out for that. Onward to bigger and better in 2015!

Hey friends! CAD4.0. MDA team-up. Life is good.

And it just got better. We’re excited to finally release news of our partnership with Ouija Entertainment. The first fruit of this comes Thursday [11.13]. Penguin Prison, SNBRN, AfroWhitey, and KidB are our musical stars. Absolut and Avion: our libations [come early and check the open bar from 9-10!]

Penguin Prison sets are always something special. The added touch of live vocals over his indie-pop originals have quite the effect. And then there’s introduction to his influences by way of DJ set. Think sunset-house and disco vibes. Add SNBRN to the mix – his recent Dirty South remix was emotional, to say the least – and we’re looking at quite a feel-good party. Our favourite kind of party. Win some tickets and come add to the mood!

Pacific Festival | Tickets

Next weekend – August 16th – marks the return of Pacific Festival. Hosted inside the Back Bay Dunes of Newport Beach, this festival is a single day of ‘hip’ culture and sound that signifies summer in Southern California. Indie dance pop, sunshine tinged electronics, craft brews, and culinary skill on wheels are brought together to provide you with a day’s respite. There will be returning summer staples with new material (Poolside, Bag Raiders, Miami Horror[LIVE!]) as well as more acts that have been making quite a name for themselves (De Lux, Painted Palms, Cherry Glazerr, among many others).

Don’t think we forgot special guests and in-house favourite Holy Ghost! who are, arguably, at the helm of the post-punk, indie-dance scene. We’ve seen them quite a few times and have yet to be disappointed. Every one of their sets is packed with synth-heavy, melodic, and utterly cool vibes that we wish never end. They’re undoubtedly one of our favorite acts to see live and they’re coming to our home town! More details and contest below!!

Mansions on the Moon | Soundcloud

Since they were featured in Benzi and Diplo‘s Paradise Falls mixtape, MOTM has held a special place in my heart for one of my favourite late night driving tracks: ‘Satellite’. I still get goosebumps cruising empty highways to it.

The good news is they’re coming out with a self-titled LP on October 22nd. The first single, ‘Don’t Tell’, is just as perfect as I’d hoped it to be. It’s a blend of indie-electronic dance pop that elicits nothing but a lighthearted wave of summery dreams about that night you can’t quite remember but will never forget. Download it free and take it for a test drive (literally).
