When they made it into our 2014 Honorable Mention for the rousing Dead, Young Fathers were only getting started. Follow up album White Men are Black Men Too continued to feature their Scot-pop catchiness interlaced among heavy militaristic droning with hopeful background bagpipes staying strong. Interspersed across all of that sonic space are politically charged rap and soulful ballads that highlight a deeply caring and international influence.

Catch them Sunday for what’s been touted as a very energetic live show.

Young Fathers – Low

Young Fathers – Old Rock n’ Roll

Young Fathers – Shame

Young Fathers – No Way

With two EPs, one LP, and several high-brow festivals under her belt, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Meg Myers has proven her prowess in alternative rock and stands as a warning beacon to the repercussions of being vulnerable to love and lust. While one’d expect romanticised lyricism to maintain mellow pacings, Meg Myers would rather throw that notion out the door for in-your-face gritty rock. That’s not to say she doesn’t have range; tracks like ‘In the Morning’ and it’s eerie lull seep through the soul just as powerfully.

Be sure to catch her early Sunday to start your weekend’s close off on a proper mosh.

Meg Myers – Desire

Meg Myers – Lemon Eyes

Meg Myers – I Really Want You to Hate Me

Pacific Festival | Tickets

Next weekend – August 16th – marks the return of Pacific Festival. Hosted inside the Back Bay Dunes of Newport Beach, this festival is a single day of ‘hip’ culture and sound that signifies summer in Southern California. Indie dance pop, sunshine tinged electronics, craft brews, and culinary skill on wheels are brought together to provide you with a day’s respite. There will be returning summer staples with new material (Poolside, Bag Raiders, Miami Horror[LIVE!]) as well as more acts that have been making quite a name for themselves (De Lux, Painted Palms, Cherry Glazerr, among many others).

Don’t think we forgot special guests and in-house favourite Holy Ghost! who are, arguably, at the helm of the post-punk, indie-dance scene. We’ve seen them quite a few times and have yet to be disappointed. Every one of their sets is packed with synth-heavy, melodic, and utterly cool vibes that we wish never end. They’re undoubtedly one of our favorite acts to see live and they’re coming to our home town! More details and contest below!!

HOW TO ENTER

Standard procedure: The contest ends at 12PM Monday August 11th! The more ways you enter below, the better your chance is to win. Be sure to be ready to check your e-mail/twitter, because we’ll be giving it to the first person who responds when the contest is over. See you guys there!

The Casablancas croon of lead singer Matt Hitt and the 80’s indie-punk jangle of New York quartet Drowners will set you up proper for your Saturday. Their music is all about the rebellious teenage years of running away, making mistakes, and pushing the limits. Who are we kidding; we’re still doing that. Here’s to music about living, we guess.

Their self-titled LP was just released and its a doozy. Listen up and then come dance with us in April.
