New: Childish Gambino | Paper Diamond | Mac Miller | Zeds Dead ++

I <3 Bacon

Hello friends! It’s been a minute — I’m finally feeling somewhat settled out here in Barcelona and starting to think I may never return to the US. Beautiful women, amazing architecture, siestas, and an overflow of opportunities to see great electronic music. If they had animal fries out here that’d seal the deal. Anywho, more on the city later when I have some stuff to stimulate your ojos. For now your ears will have to take in the jams that have provided the soundtrack for the city. Hit the jump to hear ’em all.

The first Childish Gambino single from his upcoming album, Camp. This is not kosher; I’ve always been cool with his music but gaddamn he’s growing on me a lot. There are very few rappers out there that are spewing out such clever metaphors. He’s an entertainer and this track will definitely keep your mind workin’ and giggling with every line. Camp is out November 15th.

J. Cole‘s highly anticipated Cole World: The Sideline Story leaked earlier today; I guess Hov couldn’t share his secret with little Simba. Lucky for us. Before I take it for a spin I’m still holding out hope that the tracks we’ve heard so far were just put out to garner commercial appeal for people to buy the album and realize how good of an artist he is. I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt. In any case, here’s the track with Missy Elliot that was actually released today. Some good lines in there over a slower beat. Missy > Nikki 4eva. Realtalktho nobody is perfect.

[Dubstep]

Dubstep is thriving all over the map. Although the scene in Europe is out of this world (I would expect nothing less from the more or less birthplace of electronic music), North America’s doing their thing. Can-eh-dian duo Zeds Dead have been shining bright, and if you’ve never listened before, this track is a great introduction. They begin by adding some uplifting synths and a catchy melody to the electrifying vocals from Sabi’s “Wild Heart,” making me believe this could be a nice little house song. But don’t be duped like I was, because it soon transitions into absolute audio carnage. DON’T SLEEP ON THIS. Great fucking track.

Mac Miller‘s debut album Blue Slide Park has a release date — 11/8/11. The album art is pretty nice as well (looking for some clarification on what it is besides a cool lookin’ design). I’ve been pretty damn satisfied with the two releases thus far. This track won’t be on the album but is a pretty amazing feat nonetheless. 19 year old working with one of the main men behind Nas’ Illmatic, DJ Premier. Mac’s come a long way from spittin’ weed raps as 1/2 of The Ill Spoken and it’s been great to watch. This is a lesson to anyone with aspirations: if you have the right message to spread and the right state of mind, things you can imagine are possible. He’s not the best lyricist or doesn’t have the most ‘raw talent’ but he’s got the characteristics of success. Thumbs up. Oh yeah, and this track is pretty dope too.

[Electro/Dubstep]

This is the latest track from Paper Diamond and it’s oozing with new sounds that I love seeing him experiment with. Utilizes solid vocals and a beat that builds into a drop of a medley of sounds. Glitchy electro, Bloody Beetroots-esque synths, and a slamming bass kick. As much as I love his sound of meshing hip-hop and electro, he’s got some serious promise with these kinds of tracks. If he can somehow merge the two, we might have a true Pretty Lights protégé.

[TV Soundtrack]

Lastly, now that Entourage has left our Sundays for good, it’s all time for us to turn our attention to How to Make It In America. The show will feature more of Kid Cudi this year and probably a lot of progression as shows tend to do in their second years. It’s the story of what almost all of us are trying to do. At the very least it’ll remind you once a week to get motivated. If you have time to watch TV you have time to get on your grind. Here’s a playlist of some of the tracks from the upcoming season:

That’s all I got for now. Enjoy the tunes and watch out for these releases in the next week:
